Odisha went down to Bengal by eight wickets in their seventh and last Group-D match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Senior Men T20 Tournament at Barabati Stadium here today. This was the fourth defeat for Odisha, who finished sixth in the group table with 12 points, winning four matches in the process.
On the other hand, the win over Odisha helped Bengal qualify for super league as they finished second in the group with 20 points. Karnataka emerged Group-D toppers with 28 points.
Opting to bat against Bengal, hosts Odisha were restricted to 108 for nine in the stipulated 20 overs. Amidst disappointing performance by the top-order batsmen, pace bowler Rajesh Mohanty became the top scorer with a 21-ball 24.
Bengal then rode on half-century by former India stumper Wriddhiman Saha to overhaul the target with 44 balls to spare. Subham Nayak, Ashutosh Das and Shantanu Mishra made their T20 debut for Odisha in this match.
